When was the last time you went to a tea party?! I, for one, had not been to a tea party for a very long time and so I decided that my birthday would be a perfect excuse to host one! And what's better is that I got to cook all of the delicious tea goodies so it was just as delicious as it was cruelty free :) Even the Sweet Life cake was vegan. That makes me happy. It was a good birthday.
So what's on the menu at a vegan tea party? Well, I will tell you. First I made chocolate covered pretzel sticks using a combination of Tradaer Joe's chocolate chips and higher quality dark chocolate. It's so easy: just use a double broiler to melt the chocolate, dip the sticks and lay them out on wax paper to harden in the fridge over night.Next on the menu was "eggless" salad over multigrain crackers. This is always such a hit, for vegans and meat eaters alike. Basically you just cube up some firm tofu and mix it with veganaise, spicy mustard, relish, shredded carrots, diced celery and any other sauces or veggies you have in the kitchen. I like to use Sriracha sauce in mine too. Then you add about a teaspoon or more of Tumeric to give it the trademark yellow color, salt it and throw it whatever other spices you have lying around (try Cinnamon, it's reeeal good). You can even make a sandwich! Or just put it on crackers like I did so everyone can have some!
No tea party is complete without tea sandwiches and scones so of course I had to have a couple of each! The tea sandwiches were really easy. I did the traditional cucumber sandwich but just used tofutti instead (you honestly can't even tell the difference) and then I did a banana, mayonnaise, agave and peanut butter sandwich with chili peppers (sounds weird, but it was probably everyone's favorite treat there :). The scone recipe was just the basic recipe that I nabbed from Vegan Brunch and you can pretty much add whatever (lemon, poppyseeds, raspberry etc...) and the serve them with jam and earth balance!
Combine all this delicious food with some fresh fruit, a wide assortment of tea and some beautiful people all dressed up and viola! A perfect vegan tea party!! Don't forget silk creamer and iced tea for the cold drink connoisseurs! Yummmm
